Lexibird vs. Reverso

Reverso is a favorite of language learners for good reason. Type a phrase and it shows you real sentences where that phrase appears, with synonyms, conjugation tables, and dictionaries a click away. It's a great way to understand how a word behaves.

Lexibird is built for a different moment: when you need the whole message translated well, right now. It lets you choose the AI model behind each translation, keeps your preferred terms in glossaries, and handles documents, screenshots, and recordings in more than 200 languages.

What is Lexibird?

Lexibird is an AI translator for anyone who has to get real messages across languages: a reply to a client, a contract from a supplier, a recording from a field interview. You pick from leading AI models or let Auto decide, and the same app on the web, Mac, Windows, and your browser covers text, documents, images, audio, a dictionary, and glossaries.

What is Reverso?

Reverso is a translation and language service best known for Reverso Context, which shows translations alongside example sentences drawn from real texts. Its translator uses neural machine translation in about 28 languages and comes with synonyms, integrated dictionaries from publishers such as Collins and Larousse, verb conjugation in 10 languages, an AI spell checker, and vocabulary flashcards. Reverso also translates documents while keeping their layout, and offers apps for Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, Chrome, and Edge.

1. From phrase lookup to finished translation

Reverso shines when you're unsure about a single expression. Searching "ce n'est pas la mer à boire" in Reverso Context shows you dozens of sentences that use it, which helps you learn it.

Most days, though, that expression sits inside an email you need to answer. Lexibird translates the whole message at once with leading AI models that read the surrounding sentences, so the phrase comes out as "it's not that hard" in a reassuring tone that matches the rest of the email, instead of being worked out phrase by phrase. If you'd like a different wording, run it through another model from the Claude, GPT, or Gemini families and compare the two.

2. Languages beyond the classroom set

Reverso's translator covers about 28 languages, mostly the major European and Asian languages people study at school. That covers most of the languages people study and travel with.

Work and research go further. A volunteer coordinator might get messages in Amharic, a researcher may need sources in Uzbek, and a small exporter might write to buyers in Bengali. Lexibird translates text in more than 200 languages, so the less common ones don't need a separate tool.

3. Keep the terms that matter

Learners want to explore the many ways to say something. Professionals usually want one way, every time. Your company calls its plan "Starter," your lab uses a specific term for a method, your client wants their product name left untranslated.

In Lexibird, those go into a glossary. Every text translation in the web and desktop apps follows it, and because the AI model receives the terms as context, the sentence around them stays natural. On a team, everyone draws from the same glossary, so the support desk and the sales team use the same words.

4. Recordings and screenshots, not just typed text

Reverso can read text aloud so you can hear the pronunciation. Lexibird goes further with audio: upload an interview or a voice memo, get a transcript, and translate it. You can also dictate instead of typing and listen to the translation at the speed you prefer.

Text trapped in images works too. A photo of a printed notice or a screenshot of a chat goes through OCR and then translation. On a Mac or Windows PC, you can capture any part of the screen, which is handy when a foreign-language app shows an error you can't copy.

5. Privacy for team work

Both services take privacy seriously; Reverso says documents uploaded for translation are never used to train its models. For teams, Lexibird's Business plan adds zero data retention, switched on by default, so text is handled only by AI providers that don't keep it, along with single sign-on and shared workspaces.

Which one should you choose?

If you're studying a language and want to see how a phrase is used in real sentences, Reverso Context is a wonderful companion.

When you need the translation itself, ready to send, choose Lexibird if you want:

  • Whole messages translated with context, by the AI model you pick
  • More than 200 languages, including the ones textbooks skip
  • Glossaries that keep names and key terms consistent
  • Recordings, screenshots, and documents handled in one app

Try Lexibird on the next email you'd otherwise piece together phrase by phrase.
